Important: Individual Practitioner Recognition

Our physiotherapists are individually recognised with insurers.
This means your treatment is authorised under your named physiotherapist, rather than under “Glasgow City Physiotherapy” as a company.

Your insurer will provide you with an authorisation code linked to one of our practitioners. This is completely normal and does not affect your care — but it’s important that the details you give your insurer match the physiotherapist you book with.

If you’re unsure who to list when speaking to your insurer, contact us first and we’ll advise you.

How to Access Physiotherapy Using Insurance

Step 1 – Contact your insurer

Before booking, contact your insurer (AXA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, or WPA) to:

  • Open a physiotherapy claim
  • Receive an authorisation code
  • Confirm your level of cover and any excess or co-payment

They may ask for details of your injury and the physiotherapist you plan to see.

Step 2 – Book your appointment

Once you have your authorisation code:

  • Go to our online booking system
  • Select “Physiotherapy – Insurance”
  • Choose your appointment time

This option does not charge you at the time of booking.

Step 3 – Provide your insurance details

After booking, you will be asked to provide:

  • Your authorisation code
  • Your membership/policy number

This allows us to bill your insurer directly.

Step 4 – Attend your appointment

Your physiotherapist will complete your assessment and treatment as normal.
We will invoice your insurer following your sessions.

If your policy includes an excess, co-payment, or shortfall, this remains the patient’s responsibility and is payable directly to the clinic. Please let us know in advance if your insurer has told you an excess applies.

Fees, Excess & Shortfalls

Insurance policies vary. Some cover the full cost of physiotherapy, while others require:

  • An excess
  • co-payment per session
  • Or may only cover a set number of appointments

Any amount not covered by your insurer is payable by you. We strongly recommend confirming this with your insurer before your first appointment.
