Pilates is a low impact mind-body workout consisting of conditioning exercises that strengthen the core muscles of the body with control, alongside both mobility and flexibility exercises. The mindful nature of Pilates promotes good postural alignment and body awareness which leaves you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

At GCP, we offer both small classes and 1:1 Pilates which are guided by a qualified physiotherapist with an expert knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and a unique understanding of how the body moves. Therefore you can be assured that you are performing the exercises safely, effectively and modified to the appropriate level for you. We teach modified Pilates exercises pioneered by the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) which are adapted from the original Joseph Pilates series. This adapted form of traditional Pilates exercise is suitable and beneficial for almost everyone, including those of you who wish to improve your general well being, enhance sports performance or recovery from injury. We utilise a range of small equipment such as the Pilates circle, soft ball and foam roller to modify the exercises – these are great if you like a challenge!

Pilates is also a very safe and effective form of exercise during and after pregnancy. One to one Pilates sessions are currently available which include an individualised assessment and development of a tailored exercise plan. Modified Pilates exercises are known to provide a number of positive benefits and are commonly used in women’s health physiotherapy.
